Luca Luca Looks to the Future Feb 06, 2007 - 17:41

The rest of the bold faced names came from backstage and included Carmen Electra, Destiny Child singer Kelly Rowland, and J.C. Chasez. But the squeals coming from the middle of the tent weren't for the aforementioned C-list celebs—instead, girls clamored over one another to catch a glimpse of The Hills' Lauren Conrad and Audrina Patridge, who took center stage when it came to the photogs' attention.

Then there were the clothes. Apt for the below freezing temperatures, Luca Luca sent Jessica Stam out first in a white quilted silk and wool jacket, and white quilted rayon pants as an ode to snow bunny chic—and to the applause of the audience. The mink and fox pieces provided by Saga Furs added opulence to the beautifully tailored cropped jackets and short jumpsuits—who wouldn't want to wear mink shorts? Although known for its angelic colors and gauzy cuts, Luca Luca displayed astute attention to tailoring, adding chevron darting to the side of the charcoal gray and beige skirts and pants. This technique made waistlines smaller and hips narrower, much to the happiness of many women sitting in the front row.

Where layering pieces like a cashmere sweater could have gone down a simple and staid road, Luca Luca added three layers of blousing to the sleeves to make the piece speak for itself—it could have also been the white tiered fox on chiffon skirt that embellished the look. A collection of wool bouglet dresses and skirts appeared heavy in texture, but one could see how softly it moved sashaying down the runway.

Metallic rayon pants are reserved for only the most svelte figures, but Luca Luca's nod to the future was brilliantly executed when silver metallic pants were coupled with a gold sequin, backless top. A silver wool and silk suit may sound conservative, but with metallic darts and piping, any woman would dominate the boardroom in this outfit. But making sure not to disappoint a crowd yearning to see what gowns Luca Luca created for fall 2007, the designer sent out four dresses, each in its own way perfect for separate occasions: an ice blue silk number would look fitting at the ballet, an old rose beaded lace gown would be perfect for the benefit, a champagne iridescent silk would be ideal for the school charity, and a smoke pleated silk moiré would look dashing anytime, anyplace.
